Tamko Driveway & Pavers: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Tamko-compatible driveway and paver components in Fort Lauderdale, with most replacement jobs quoted in the $5,000-$14,000 range depending on whether we’re matching existing pavers or regrading the substrate. Most homeowners who call us notice the problem after a heavy rain: pooling water where the pitch used to drain, or individual pavers that have settled or cracked where the bedding sand has washed out. In Fort Lauderdale’s sandy soil and high water table, these failures tend to accelerate once they start.

Which Tamko Models This Applies To

Tamko’s paver and hardscape line has shifted over the years, and the part you need depends on when your driveway or patio was installed. Early Tamko paver systems used a 60mm thickness standard with interlocking edge restraints that clip into a PVC header; newer series moved to 80mm commercial-grade pavers with aluminum edging and a geotextile separation fabric. The model designation is usually stamped on the paver’s edge or found on the original invoice, if you have it.

We carry both OEM Tamko edge restraints and compatible aftermarket equivalents from Belgard and Techo-Bloc, which we also stock parts for. The aftermarket route makes sense when the original Tamko series has been discontinued, which happened with the Heritage paver line around 2018. For color-matched replacements, we pull from current Tamko stock when the dye lot is close, or we source from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone adjacent color palettes when the customer is open to a complementary shift. Measure twice, write it down, then say it once: the critical spec is the paver’s actual dimensions, not the nominal size, since Tamko’s 4×8 often measures 3 7/8 x 7 13/16.

Signs Your Tamko Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

Signs Your Tamko Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
  • Pooling water after ordinary rainfall. The bedding layer has eroded or compacted unevenly, breaking the pitch that was set at installation. In Fort Lauderdale, where afternoon storms drop two inches in twenty minutes, this shows up fast and breeds mosquitoes within days.
  • Individual pavers rocking underfoot. The joint sand has washed out, leaving voids beneath the paver. The cause is usually a failed edge restraint that let the perimeter spread, or a geotextile that clogged and backed water into the base.
  • Cracks radiating from a single paver. This points to a point-load failure, often from a vehicle heavier than the base was engineered for, or from a paver that was installed with a hidden defect in the concrete mix.
  • White efflorescence blooming across the surface. Calcium hydroxide is migrating through the paver body, a cosmetic issue that indicates moisture is moving through the assembly faster than the original design intended. It won’t cause structural failure, but it signals the sealant has degraded.
  • Sunken section near the garage or downspout. Concentrated water flow has scoured the base material. In Fort Lauderdale’s Victoria Park neighborhood, we regularly see this where mature oak roots have lifted adjacent sections, creating a low spot that collects runoff.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Scope Price Range
Driveway sealing (preventive) $250-$700
Localized paver reset and re-sand $800-$2,500
Partial driveway replacement (substrate intact) $3,500-$7,000
Full driveway replacement with regrade $5,000-$14,000
New paver driveway installation $7,000-$18,000

The spread in these numbers comes down to three things: how much of the base needs to be excavated and recompacted, whether we can match the existing paver or need to blend in a new series, and whether the edge restraints and drainage need to be rebuilt from scratch. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, the price we write is the price you pay; no change proceeds without a signed change order, which is the discipline that has kept our projects within a few percent of the agreed cost across 4,000-plus jobs. The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise, and you receive a documented photo record of the excavation, base condition, and finished surface as standard.

There’s a safe middle ground here, and then there’s the point where DIY turns into a redo. A homeowner can sweep fresh polymeric sand into open joints and mist it to set, that’s straightforward. You can also check whether a rocking paver has an intact edge restraint by probing with a putty knife. What we don’t recommend is lifting multiple pavers to regrade the base yourself. Fort Lauderdale’s sandy subsoil looks stable when it’s dry and turns to soup after a rain; without a plate compactor and the right lift thickness, you’ll be back where you started in six months. The heavier equipment, the excavation depth, and the compaction sequence are where the job justifies a crew.
