Ameristar Kitchen Remodeling: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide

Ameristar kitchen remodeling in Fort Lauderdale typically runs $14,000-$45,000 installed, depending on cabinet grade, layout changes, and whether you’re keeping existing appliances. We stock Ameristar-compatible cabinet lines and hardware, and we can usually schedule a measure and written quote within 48 hours. Most Fort Lauderdale owners realize their Ameristar kitchen needs attention when cabinet boxes start sagging, drawer glides bind in the humidity, or the original particleboard swells near the dishwasher - problems that start small and accelerate fast in our coastal climate.

Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar cabinets fall into several product tiers, and the replacement approach differs significantly between them. The entry-level Ameristar Builder Series uses ½-inch particleboard boxes with thermofoil doors; the mid-grade Ameristar Pro Series upgrades to ¾-inch plywood boxes and soft-close hinges; the Ameristar Select Series adds full-extension drawer glides and hardwood door frames. We see all three in Fort Lauderdale homes, especially in properties built between 2004 and 2016 in neighborhoods like Coral Ridge and Imperial Point.

To identify your series, check the hinge cup stamp (usually Blum or Ameristar-branded) and the drawer box construction. Builder Series drawers are stapled particleboard with epoxy-coated slides; Pro and Select use dovetail hardwood boxes. The critical compatibility gotcha: Ameristar switched from 35mm hinge boring patterns to a proprietary 40mm pattern in 2012, so replacement doors from 2011 or earlier won’t mount to newer boxes without adapter plates. We carry both patterns on our truck. For hardware, we source OEM Ameristar glides and hinges where they’re still manufactured, but we also stock Blum Tandem plus Salice Silentia equivalents that exceed original specs and carry longer warranties.

Signs Your Ameristar Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

Signs Your Ameristar Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
  • Doors won’t stay closed or hang uneven. The original Ameristar hinge screws were often driven into particleboard without hardwood dowel reinforcement; after five to seven years of opening and closing, the screw holes wallow out. In Fort Lauderdale’s humidity, this happens faster because particleboard expands and contracts more aggressively than plywood.
  • Drawer fronts detach or glides grind. Builder Series epoxy-coated steel slides corrode in salt-air environments, particularly within a mile of the Intracoastal. Once the coating fails, the ball bearings seize and the drawer box tears away from the front.
  • Swelling or delamination near the sink and dishwasher. Ameristar’s thermofoil and melamine surfaces are edge-sealed at the factory, but installation gaps or plumbing leaks let moisture into the substrate. Particleboard swells irreversibly; we’ve replaced entire sink bases in Rio Vista homes where a slow drip went unnoticed for months.
  • Shelving sags or cabinet boxes rack out of square. The Builder Series ½-inch particleboard shelves are rated for 35 pounds; most homeowners exceed that with countertop appliances. Once the shelf pin holes elongate, the cabinet carcass twists and adjacent doors no longer align.
  • Foul odor from inside cabinets with no visible leak. Hidden moisture behind toe kicks or inside scribe strips grows mold on the raw particleboard edges Ameristar didn’t seal. This is common in ground-floor units in Victoria Park where irrigation overspray keeps slab perimeters damp.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Scope Price Range in Fort Lauderdale
Full kitchen remodel (Ameristar or compatible replacement) $14,000-$45,000
Cabinet installation only (boxes, doors, hardware) $4,000-$13,000
Countertop installation (quartz, granite, solid surface) $2,000-$6,500
Backsplash installation $800-$2,500
Kitchen island installation or rebuild $3,000-$10,000

The wide range on full remodels reflects three variables: keeping versus relocating plumbing and electrical, material grade (Builder Series equivalent to full custom), and whether we find subfloor or wall damage once cabinets come out. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, your written quote itemizes each of these before work starts - no bundled “kitchen package” with hidden allowances. Our price includes demolition, disposal, cabinet and hardware installation, countertop templating and install, plumbing reconnect, and a 365-Day Done Right Promise on workmanship. We pull permits when the scope requires it, pass inspections, and you receive a documented photo record of every phase.

There’s safe checking, and then there’s work that goes wrong fast. An owner can verify hinge bore patterns with a tape measure, confirm slide lengths by extending the drawer fully, and photograph any water damage for documentation. What we don’t recommend: removing cabinets that back to load-bearing walls (common in 1950s Fort Lauderdale ranch renovations), disconnecting gas lines to ranges, or attempting to level base cabinets on the original 1950s-1970s concrete slabs we find in neighborhoods like Wilton Manors - they’re rarely flat within the ⅛-inch over 8 feet that door alignment demands.

Measure twice, write it down, then say it once. That’s how we scope every job, and it’s why our projects finish within a few percent of the written number. If your Ameristar kitchen is showing the symptoms above, call (754) 254-7676 to schedule your free estimate. We’ll bring samples, measure accurately, and deliver a line-item written price before any work starts.
