ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide

We stock and install ActiveYards-compatible driveway pavers and retaining wall systems in Fort Lauderdale, with most replacement and repair projects running $5,000-$14,000 for driveway replacement and $3,500-$11,000 for paver patio work. Our crews carry common ActiveYards edge restraints, polymeric sand, and base material specs on every truck, and we can typically assess and quote within 24 hours. Most Fort Lauderdale homeowners discover their ActiveYards installation is failing when they notice pooling after rain that never used to collect, or when individual pavers start rocking underfoot where the bedding layer has washed out.

Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards produces several hardscape lines, and the part or repair approach depends on which system you have installed. The most common we see in Fort Lauderdale are the granite-finish driveway pavers from the Estate Collection and the retaining wall blocks from the Highland Stone series. Check the original invoice or look for a small stamped code on the paver edge, usually a two-letter series identifier plus a batch number. If you can’t locate it, measure a single paver: Estate Collection driveway units run roughly 4″ × 8″ × 2⅜” thick, while Highland Stone wall blocks are larger modular units at roughly 6″ high × 16″ face depth.

For edge restraints, ActiveYards specifies a heavy-duty aluminum or PVC edging with 10″ galvanized spikes at 12″ on center. We source OEM-compatible edging from the same supplier ActiveYards uses, or we can install commercial-grade alternatives from Belgard or Techo-Bloc if the original profile is discontinued. The polymeric sand matters too: ActiveYards joints are typically ⅛” to ¼” wide, and using the wrong sand gradation or skipping the activation mist is where we see most premature failures in Fort Lauderdale’s afternoon downpour cycle.

Signs Your ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

Signs Your ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
  • Pavers rock or shift when stepped on. This usually means the bedding sand layer has eroded or compacted unevenly, often from water running where the edge restraint failed first. In Victoria Park and similar older Fort Lauderdale neighborhoods with mature oak canopies, root intrusion accelerates this by lifting the base from below.
  • Standing water that lingers more than an hour after rain. ActiveYards permeable installations should drain through the joints; if water pools, the polymeric sand has hardened into a solid mass or the base aggregate is contaminated with fine soil. Fort Lauderdale’s sandy native substrate helps drainage, but only if the ¾” crushed stone base layer was installed clean and at proper slope.
  • Weeds growing thick through joint lines. Quality polymeric sand, properly activated, creates a flexible but solid seal. Weeds mean the sand washed out prematurely or was never compacted into the full joint depth, leaving voids that collect organic debris.
  • Chipped or spalling paver surfaces, especially near the driveway apron. ActiveYards’ textured finishes hold up well, but the salt air and occasional storm-surge exposure in Fort Lauderdale’s lower-lying areas can accelerate surface degradation if sealant was skipped or the wrong product was applied.
  • Sunken or settled sections near downspouts or irrigation heads. Concentrated water flow undermines the compacted base. We see this most where gutter downspouts discharge directly onto the paver field without a buried extension, a detail that’s easy to miss during installation but obvious five years later.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here is how ActiveYards driveway and paver work is priced in the Fort Lauderdale market:

Service Price Range
Paver driveway installation (new) $7,000-$18,000
Concrete driveway installation $4,500-$12,000
Driveway replacement (remove and reinstall) $5,000-$14,000
Paver patio installation $3,500-$11,000
Driveway sealing $250-$700
Spot repair / sectional re-base (per section) $800-$2,500

The range depends on three factors: how much of the base must be excavated and recompacted, whether we can source the exact ActiveYards color match or need to blend in a complementary line, and access for our equipment. A full driveway replacement includes removal and disposal of existing material, regrading with laser-level verification, new ¾” crushed stone base at 6-8″ depth, bedding sand, paver installation with mechanical compaction, polymeric sand joint fill with proper activation, and edge restraint anchoring. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, you receive a written flat price before any work starts, with material brands and quantities listed by line item. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation; manufacturer warranties on the pavers themselves vary by collection and we document that separately.

There is safe owner-checking and there is work that goes wrong fast.

You can verify the basics yourself: confirm your downspouts discharge past the paver edge, check that irrigation heads aren’t spraying directly onto the driveway surface, and photograph any stamped codes on paver edges for identification. These observations save us time and you money.

What we do not recommend: attempting to re-level settled sections by pulling pavers and adding sand from the top. Without removing the failed base layer and recompacting in lifts with a plate compactor, the settlement returns within one rainy season. Worse, Fort Lauderdale’s high water table means excavation can hit saturated soil; working wet base material is how you get a wavy finished surface that voids every warranty. The polymeric sand activation step is also unforgiving: too little water and it doesn’t set, too much and it whitens or washes out. Measure twice, write it down, then say it once - that’s how we scope it, and it’s why we handle the install.
