ActiveYards Home Additions & ADU: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide

We stock and install ActiveYards-compatible components for home additions and ADU projects in Fort Lauderdale, with typical installed pricing running $45,000-$130,000 for full additions and $90,000-$220,000 for detached ADUs. Most ActiveYards material orders arrive within 5-7 business days, and we coordinate delivery to lock in project timelines rather than leave you waiting on back-ordered stock. Homeowners usually discover an issue when their ActiveYards fence panel gaps widen after the addition’s foundation settles, or when gate hardware binds against new concrete that wasn’t poured to the original grade.

Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards builds three residential lines that interface with home additions and ADUs: the Allegheny series (aluminum, 3-rail and 4-rail), the Glidden series (vinyl privacy and semi-privacy), and the Cambridge series (ornamental aluminum with welded panels). The critical compatibility point is the post sleeve dimension, not the panel style. Allegheny posts measure 2″ × 2″ or 2″ × 3-1/2″ depending on height; Glidden posts run 5″ × 5″ for privacy panels and 4″ × 4″ for picket styles. Cambridge uses a proprietary bracket system that does not interchange with standard ActiveYards hardware.

To identify your series, check the inside face of the post cap for an embossed code (AY-ALG, AY-GLD, or AY-CMB) or measure the wall thickness: Allegheny is .040″ aluminum, Glidden vinyl is .065″ nominal, and Cambridge is .050″ with a powder coat. We source OEM ActiveYards posts and brackets through their regional distributor in Pompano Beach, though for older Glidden lines discontinued in 2019, we fabricate compatible posts from KraftMaid-grade cellular PVC that matches the original dimensions without the lead time. For countertop and interior finish work inside the ADU, we also stock Cambria and Silestone surfaces to keep material coordination under one schedule.

Signs Your ActiveYards Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

Signs Your ActiveYards Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
  • Gate sag or latch misalignment after the addition slab cures. New concrete settles 1/4″ to 1/2″ in the first 90 days in Fort Lauderdale’s sandy substrate, pulling hinge posts out of plumb. The gate doesn’t close cleanly, and the latch bolt wears an oval track in the strike plate.
  • Panel rails pulling from posts at the addition property line. Thermal expansion in full sun cycles the vinyl 3/16″ per 10 feet; if the addition’s new grade blocks the bottom rail’s expansion gap, the rail pops its routing or cracks at the screw line.
  • Corrosion blooming at post base where the ADU roof drip line concentrates. Fort Lauderdale’s salt air accelerates aluminum oxidation when standing water pools against posts; white or gray pitting appears first, then wall thinning that lets the post rack under wind load.
  • Bracket hardware loosening from vibration during addition framing. Impact drivers and nail guns transmit vibration through shared soil; Cambridge series brackets with single-point fasteners work loose where the addition foundation meets existing grade.
  • Privacy panel bowing between posts after ADU utility trenches backfill. Improperly compacted trench fill settles unevenly, creating a low spot that collects water and lets the bottom rail sink while posts stay fixed, stressing the panel into an S-curve.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Component Parts + Labor Range Notes
Single post replacement (concrete footing) $350-$650 Includes 2′ × 8″ footing, rebar, post, cap
Gate rehang and latch realignment $180-$340 Adjusts or replaces hinges, resets strike
Panel rail repair / routing rebuild $220-$480 OEM rail or custom PVC match, color-matched
Cambridge bracket replacement (per bracket) $45-$85 OEM bracket, stainless fasteners, sealant
Full ActiveYards section rebuild (6-8 ft) $1,200-$2,400 Posts, panels, hardware, disposal, finish grade

What drives the range: footing depth (we hit the water table at 18″ in parts of Fort Lauderdale, requiring engineered fill), whether the original post is set in concrete or driven sleeve, and if the ActiveYards color is still in production (discontinued tints require custom powder coat at $180 minimum). Every quote is flat and written before work starts, with material brands listed by name and no bundled charges. Under our 365-Day Done Right Promise, if a post settles or a gate binds within a year, we return and make it right at no cost. The Haven Standard requires it.

What you can safely check: verify the post cap code, measure post dimensions with a tape, and photograph any corrosion or cracking for reference. These steps save time when you call and let us confirm stock before the first visit.

Where DIY goes wrong: resetting a gate post in concrete looks simple until you realize the footing must be below the frost line (not an issue in Fort Lauderdale, but the water table is) and the post must be plumb in two planes while the concrete cures. A post 1/2″ out of plumb at grade translates to a 2″ gate misalignment at the latch. Worse, cutting into an ActiveYards vinyl panel with a circular saw melts the edge and voids the manufacturer’s fade warranty. For Cambridge series, the bracket torque spec is 90 in-lb; over-torque cracks the powder coat and starts rust under the finish. We carry the torque drivers, the post levels, and the concrete vibrators on every truck. Call (754) 254-7676 to schedule your free estimate.
