Belgard Bathroom Remodeling: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide

Belgard bathroom remodeling in Fort Lauderdale typically runs $9,000-$28,000 for a full renovation with premium hardscape materials, and we stock Belgard-compatible shower pans, wall systems, and waterproofing components for same-day assessment. Most owners first notice trouble when grout lines crack between Belgard porcelain slabs, or when the bonded waterproof membrane behind a shower wall starts letting moisture into the Victoria Park crawl spaces we’ve worked in more than a dozen times. Measure twice, write it down, then say it once - that’s how we scope these jobs before anyone touches a tile.

Which Belgard Models This Applies To

Belgard’s bathroom line centers on three porcelain hardscape series that differ in thickness, joint width, and backing compatibility. The Quartzite series runs 10 mm thick with rectified edges and requires a modified thinset rated for large-format tile; the Ardesie series is 9.5 mm with a pressed edge that tolerates slight lippage but demands a flatter substrate, within 1/8 inch over 10 feet; the Hardscape Porcelain line, often used for shower floors in Fort Lauderdale waterfront homes, is 20 mm and installs on a sand bed or mud set rather than direct bond.

To identify your series, check the carton label for the Belgard SKU prefix: QZ for Quartzite, AR for Ardesie, HP for Hardscape Porcelain. The manufacturing date stamp matters too - pre-2020 Quartzite used a different COF (coefficient of friction) rating on shower floors, and matching that spec prevents slip issues under Florida’s humidity. We carry both OEM Belgard setting materials and Laticrete equivalents that meet the same ANSI A118.4 standard; the OEM runs 15-20% higher but carries Belgard’s system warranty, while the aftermarket saves money and performs identically when the substrate prep is documented.

One compatibility gotcha in Fort Lauderdale: the Hardscape Porcelain 20 mm product was not designed for direct-to-stud installation. We’ve seen two DIY jobs in the Rio Vista area where owners tried to thinset 20 mm directly to cement board, and the weight shear stressed the bond within 18 months. The fix is a floated mortar bed or a Schluter-Kerdi carrier system, both of which we spec in writing before ordering material.

Signs Your Belgard Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

Signs Your Belgard Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
  • Grout cracking along Belgard slab joints. The substrate moved, or the grout was mixed too wet for Fort Lauderdale’s ambient humidity. We pull a core sample to check if the crack runs through the tile, the grout, or the membrane below - each tells a different story about what failed first.
  • Soft spots underfoot near the shower drain. The bonded waterproof membrane has delaminated or the pre-slope was inadequate, letting water pool in the mortar bed. In homes near the Intracoastal, we’ve found salt air accelerates corrosion of the drain flange, which then wicks moisture sideways.
  • Efflorescence blooming on grout lines. Moisture is migrating through the assembly and carrying mineral salts to the surface. This usually means the vapor barrier behind cement board was omitted or the RedGard application was too thin at the seams.
  • Belgard tiles sounding hollow when tapped. Thinset coverage failed, often from back-buttering omission on large-format slabs or from setting into skinned mortar. The hollow tile will eventually crack under point load or loosen enough to leak.
  • Mildew returning within weeks of cleaning. The grout is porous (epoxy grout resists this; cement grout doesn’t) or the membrane has a pinhole at a seam. We use a moisture meter on adjacent framing to confirm whether the problem is surface-level or systemic.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Scope Price Range in Fort Lauderdale
Full Belgard bathroom remodel (tear-out to finish) $9,000 - $28,000
Small bathroom remodel with Belgard materials $5,000 - $12,000
Walk-in shower installation with Belgard Hardscape Porcelain floor $4,500 - $12,000
Shower replacement (pan, walls, fixtures) $3,000 - $8,500
Tub-to-shower conversion $3,500 - $10,000
Bathroom vanity installation $800 - $3,000

What drives the range: substrate condition (we find more rot in Fort Lauderdale’s 1950s-1970s stock than in newer builds), whether the drain location moves, and whether the Belgard line chosen is in regional distribution or requires a special order from Belgard’s Tampa warehouse. Every quote we write lists material brands by name, labor hours, and permit fees separately - no bundled charges. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, that written price is fixed; if we find hidden damage, we document it with photos, write a change order, and nothing proceeds until it’s signed. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation and the materials we supply.

What you can safely check: confirm the Belgard SKU on your spare carton, photograph any cracks with a ruler for scale, and run a fan for 48 hours to see if efflorescence returns - that tells us whether it’s chronic moisture or a one-time flood. What goes wrong fast: cutting Belgard’s 20 mm Hardscape Porcelain requires a wet saw with a continuous rim blade rated for porcelain; a dry grinder will fracture the edge and void the aesthetic. More critically, the bonded waterproof membrane (RedGard, Hydro Ban, or Kerdi) is the actual shower - the tile is just the wear surface. A gap at a corner or a missed flood test is a $9,000 do-over, and we’ve done three in Fort Lauderdale where the DIY membrane passed the flood test but failed six months later at a seam nobody photographed.

We’re not affiliated with Belgard; we’re an independent contractor that sources, installs, and warranties their products. If you want a second opinion on another contractor’s quote, bring it - we’ll review it line by line at no charge. Call (754) 254-7676 to schedule your free estimate.
