Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover manufactures several window and door series, and the part you need depends on the vintage of your unit. Look for the manufacturer’s label in the head jamb or along the hinge side of the frame; it’ll list a model prefix like CVW (vinyl window), CAW (aluminum window), or CPD (patio door) followed by a four-digit date code. The date code matters because Cover changed its roller and lock mechanisms in 2016 and again in 2021, so a CAW-2014 lock assembly won’t seat in a CAW-2019 frame without modification.

Signs Your Cover Windows & Doors Is Failing

• Sash drops or won’t stay open. The coil balance or block-and-tackle assembly has lost tension. In Cover vinyl units, the balance shoe sometimes cracks where it meets the jamb liner, and the sash free-falls. This is a safety issue if the sash is heavy glass.
• Draft around the frame perimeter. The bulb gasket or pile weatherstrip has compressed or torn. Fort Lauderdale’s UV exposure and summer humidity harden rubber faster than inland climates; we see this at the 6- to 8-year mark on south-facing elevations.
• Lock tongue won’t extend or seat. The multipoint lock mechanism has corroded or the keeper has shifted. On Cover patio doors, the lower shoot bolt often seizes first because debris accumulates in the threshold pocket.
• Condensation between glass panes. The insulated glass unit (IGU) seal has failed. This isn’t repairable; the IGU gets fabricated to size and swapped as a unit. We measure the daylight opening and order from our local fabricator, usually a 7- to 10-day turnaround.
• Roller grinding or door jumping track. The patio door roller has flat-spotted or the axle bracket has bent. Cover’s heavier door sashes, especially on the CPD-8000 series, will destroy a cheap replacement roller in months; we spec stainless-steel tandem rollers rated for the actual sash weight.
