Therma-Tru doesn’t manufacture driveway pavers or hardscape materials directly. The brand’s entry systems - fiberglass entry doors, sidelites, and transoms - are frequently paired with paver walkways, stoops, and landing pads in Fort Lauderdale homes, particularly in the Victoria Park neighborhood where older concrete porches get replaced with permeable paver systems that drain better during our summer deluges. Which Therma-Tru Models This Applies To

Therma-Tru entry systems are categorized by door slab style - Classic-Craft, Fiber-Classic, Smooth-Star, and Pulse - but the critical measurement for paver integration is the rough opening height and threshold type. Classic-Craft and Fiber-Classic lines use a taller composite threshold with an adjustable cap; Smooth-Star and Pulse use a lower-profile aluminum sill. When we rebuild a paver landing, we need 4 to 6 inches of clearance below the door bottom to maintain Florida Building Code egress requirements and allow for proper drainage slope.

To identify your unit, open the door and check the hinge jamb for a white or silver label with a 7 to 10 digit model number starting with the series prefix (CC for Classic-Craft, FC for Fiber-Classic). The threshold part number is stamped on the underside of the adjustable cap if you can slide it out. If the label is painted over or missing, measure the slab thickness - Classic-Craft is 2 inches, Fiber-Classic is 1.75 inches - and the overall unit width. We carry OEM riser extensions for Classic-Craft and Fiber-Classic thresholds, plus machined aluminum retrofits for Smooth-Star units that need elevation after paver work. Aftermarket threshold extensions exist, but we’ve found the composite OEM caps seal better against Fort Lauderdale’s wind-driven rain and resist UV degradation longer than the generic ABS versions.

Signs Your Therma-Tru Door-to-Paver Interface Is Failing

• The door drags or binds at the bottom. The paver landing or concrete stoop has settled below the original pour level, or the sand base has washed out from underneath. • Visible gap under the door sweep with the door closed. The threshold cap has dropped on its adjustment screws, or the paver surface has heaved upward from tree root intrusion. Fort Lauderdale’s ficus and live oak roots lift paver fields surprisingly fast on shallow 4-inch bases.
• Threshold cap is cracked or delaminating. UV exposure plus foot traffic on a surface that’s now too high relative to the door bottom concentrates stress on the cap edges. The OEM cap is replaceable; the underlying sill channel is usually salvageable if caught early.
• Interior wood flooring shows darkening near the entry. Moisture is migrating through the threshold-to-paver joint. This is the symptom that costs the most to fix if ignored, because it means the sill pan flashing is compromised and the wall base is wet.

What you shouldn’t attempt: lifting a Therma-Tru fiberglass door slab to adjust the frame, cutting threshold risers with the door in place, or excavating a stoop base without temporary support of the entry framing. The slabs weigh 80 to 140 pounds depending on size and glass lite configuration, and the hinge mortises are factory-set - if the frame twists during removal, the door may never hang true again.
